St. Mark's Catholic Church in Shakopee was nearing completion of an ambitious interior restoration project when a fire erupted and the 1865 structure was quickly engulfed in flames. The building appeared, even to the most optimistic observer, to be a total loss. The parish commissioned Encompass Inc., to do a complete forensic analysis and determine whether the historic building could be saved. The investigation determined that the exterior walls and the ceiling and roof structures remained viable, and Encompass was able to deliver good news. Because the ceiling structure of the church was preserved, all of the architectural and ornamental features of the building's interior could be recreated. The newly restored St. Mark's is essentially a duplication of the original structure.
